Talladegaâs NASCAR Truck Series ends with bloody post-race fight
The NASCAR Truck Series race Saturday at Talladega was heated. The post-game altercation got bloody.
Nick Sanchez had a bloody face after a fight with Matt Crafton after the race.
The race was sent into overtime after the ‘Big One’ — a multi-truck wreck through the frontstretch tri-oval at Lap 93. Sanchez was caught in the middle of a three-wide situation exiting Turn 4 and contacted the left-rear quarter panel of Crafton’s No. 88 Ford. That turned Crafton mid-pack and collected numerous competitors, including title contenders Carson Hocevar, Grant Enfinger and Ty Majeski, along with Tanner Gray, Greg Van Alst, Corey Roper, Rajah Caruth, Bret Holmes and others.
Sanchez, who went to the infield care center for the cuts on his face, said he was punched in the face by Crafton.
“Cheap shot, it is what it is I guess,” Sanchez said. “I’m all for fighting, but no cheap shots. I got a cheap shot, never really had a chance to get him back.”
Video was posted to social media of the fight. Warning: Language is not suitable for all ages.
Brett Moffitt, in his first series start of 2023, won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoffs race in overtime at Talladega Superspeedway.
Moffitt, the 2018 Truck champion, got by Christian Eckes exiting Turn 2 after Eckes’ block was denied. As Eckes went high, Moffitt and Parker Kligerman darted to the middle lane to shove Moffitt to the lead and eventual win, his first in the Truck Series since a 2020 triumph at Kansas Speedway.
